Research in the State Archives is free and open and must be conducted directly by the user, with the help of the inventories and research tools made available in the Study Room in paper format and online on the institutional website.
The user is however given the possibility of conducting a remote research when the object of the above is well defined and the user is able to provide precise archival references for a limited number of archival units to consult. It is not possible, for example, to search for a name within the entire collection.
It is possible to request a remote research:
– via e-mail to the address as-vb@cultura.gov.it, necessarily attaching a copy of a personal ID or using your electronic signature; please indicate precisely the topic of the search, providing all the information in your possession and specifying which fund and which records you intend to consult.
It is not possible to perform transcriptions/translations of documents, complete genealogical research and research on large portions of the collection: archive staff can only perform research within a limited number of documentary units.
Requests will be processed within 30 days of receipt.
Only for proven emergencies (appointment at the Court or notary, etc.) it is possible to request a shortening of the timing.
The requested information and any estimate for reproductions will be provided, together with instructions for payment if requested. The ministerial price list for reproductions is available here.
To obtain birth, residence, marriage and death certificates, you must contact the competent municipal offices: this Institute cannot issue or authenticate the aforementioned certificates. Finally, we remind you that all the vital records registers stored here can be freely consulted on the Antenati Portal, on this page http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/v/Archivio+di+Stato+di+Verbania/
Requests for certificates, generic searches for names without an exact indication of year and place of birth and searches on the vital records registers – published in full on the Antenati Portal – will therefore not be taken into consideration.
